McNeilus rethinks mixer truck nerve center

McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. took the opportunity of the 2016 Command Alkon User Conference in Atlanta to reveal FLEX Controls, billing the new platform as one of the most advanced systems for mixer trucks—with flexibility to meet any ready mixed concrete producer’s needs.

FLEX Controls’ Android-based display tablet and companion keypad (adjacent to transmission shift) provide upgrade flexibility, intuitive diagnostics, plus precise control and monitoring of key drum functions and concrete properties. McNeilus engineers designed an intelligent body and power distribution module as the system brains, placing it back of cab for easy access.

McNeilus has programmed the FLEX Controls package to integrate Command Alkon’s Command Series and Five Cubits technology. The FLEX launch-themed Bridgemaster mixer was dispatched to Atlanta for the Command Alkon Conference, and will be on hand in Las Vegas for 2017 World of Concrete and ConExpo-Con/Agg.

FLEX Controls, the manufacturer contends, are the “brains of the operation … the new nerve center that meets the demands of your job today and seamlessly upgrades for the demands of tomorrow. Whether it’s simple reliability or complex precision, our flexible system lets you add or take away functionality to meet your needs — so you can focus on getting the job done right.” The platform consolidates complete mixer monitoring onto one screen, McNeilus engineers note, and affords users better control and less variability in loading, mixing, and delivering. New Smooth Drum Stop technology, moreover, improves transitions from charge to discharge and stop/start.

“FLEX Controls is a system that I have worked closely on with our development team. The key to this system is the flexibility,” says McNeilus Vice President, Concrete Mixers Tom Harris. “You can configure a simple system for one producer and an advanced system for technology-driven producers.”

The launch of McNeilus FLEX Controls saw an executive briefing to industry leaders; display of a FLEX-equipped Bridgemaster mixer immediately outside the Command Alkon Conference venue; two general sessions with truck walkarounds; and, a fully functioning in-booth display for attendees to test out the new system. www.mcneiluscompanies.com; www.commandalkon.com
