Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based Paymeon Inc. will enter the concrete reinforcement market in a deal for privately-held Rockstar Acquisitions LLC, which leverages its intellectual property, technology and processes to produce basalt fiber reinforced polymer, reportedly 80 percent lighter and three times stronger than conventional rebar. Rockstar products are the first of their kind to be used in conjunction with the construction of projects that formerly were exclusively steel, company officials note. Among them is the Innovation Bridge, a 70-ft. University of Miami campus crossing erected in 2016 and designed to Florida Department of Transportation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards.
“We see Rockstar products as disruptors of today’s modern steel industry and believe their characteristics will create a paradigm shift in construction,” says Paymeon Director Vincent Celentano. “Given the expected increase in infrastructure spending, Rockstar is well positioned to participate in what is expected to be a high-growth industry by offering its green technology solutions, which compare favorably with steel in many aspects.”
