Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based steel fiber manufacturer Concrete Fiber Solutions has appointed Matthew Norman as Midwest sales manager, citing industry experience that includes nearly a decade in designing, specifying and overseeing the use of steel fiber-reinforced concrete. He joins CFS at a point of rapid growth, management notes, with the company’s steel fiber-reinforced floor slab installations exceeding 3 million square feet through Q3 2016. Norman graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in civil engineering. His major field of study was reinforced concrete design with a double minor in geotechnical engineering and economics.

ACI releases Structural Concrete, Field Reference titles

The American Concrete Institute announces the availability of two primary documents for concrete industry professionals: ACI 301-16 Specifications for Structural Concrete, and the ACI Field Reference Manual. The former is a reference specification an architect or engineer can apply to any job involving structural concrete by citing it in the project specifications. Mandatory and optional requirements checklists assist design and engineering professionals in supplementing the provisions of this specification as required or needed by designating or specifying individual project requirements.

Cemex to unload Rinker pipe and precast business in $500M Quikrete deal

Cemex is on track to unload in early 2017 a major non-core U.S. asset: the Rinker Materials concrete pipe and precast business. Under a definitive agreement announced November 28, the producer will sell the entity to Atlanta-based Quikrete Holdings Inc. for about $500 million, plus an additional $40 million depending on future performance.
