Terex transitions Mixer Trucks business
Terex Corp. has shifted its Fort Wayne, Ind.-based front discharge mixer truck business from the Construction Americas specialty products portfolio to the Materials Processing segment. Terex Mixer Trucks joins Fuchs material handlers, Bid-Well automatic roller pavers, plus Powerscreen, Finlay and other minerals processing and washing equipment.

Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based steel fiber manufacturer Concrete Fiber Solutions has appointed Matthew Norman as Midwest sales manager, citing industry experience that includes nearly a decade in designing, specifying and overseeing the use of steel fiber-reinforced concrete. He joins CFS at a point of rapid growth, management notes, with the company’s steel fiber-reinforced floor slab installations exceeding 3 million square feet through Q3 2016. Norman graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in civil engineering. His major field of study was reinforced concrete design with a double minor in geotechnical engineering and economics.

The National Precast Concrete Association elected Greg Stratis, president of Wilmington, Mass.-based Shea Concrete Products, to a one-year term as chairman during its 51st annual convention in Austin, Texas. Joining him as 2016-17 officers are Chairman-Elect Ashley Smith of Smith-Midland Corp. in Midland, Va., and Secretary/Treasurer Michael Hoffman of Lindsay Precast in Canal Fulton, Ohio.

The American Concrete Institute announces the availability of two primary documents for concrete industry professionals: ACI 301-16 Specifications for Structural Concrete, and the ACI Field Reference Manual. The former is a reference specification an architect or engineer can apply to any job involving structural concrete by citing it in the project specifications. Mandatory and optional requirements checklists assist design and engineering professionals in supplementing the provisions of this specification as required or needed by designating or specifying individual project requirements.

President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Elaine Chao to be U.S. Secretary of Transportation. A Vulcan Materials Co. director and the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), she was Secretary of Labor from 2001–2009, throughout both terms of President George W. Bush, and has also served as DOT deputy secretary and Federal Maritime Commission chairman.

Effective January, Steve Szoke will fill a new ACI position concentrating on efforts to disseminate and position Institute codes, standards, and certification programs beyond North America, with special emphasis on outreach to technical and regulatory authorities.

Cemex is on track to unload in early 2017 a major non-core U.S. asset: the Rinker Materials concrete pipe and precast business. Under a definitive agreement announced November 28, the producer will sell the entity to Atlanta-based Quikrete Holdings Inc. for about $500 million, plus an additional $40 million depending on future performance.
