Don Clem, P.E., has joined the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association as vice president, Local Paving, responsible for implementing strategies that increase the use of ready mixed concrete in pavements for parking lots, streets and local roads, and other applications. He will cover the NRMCA Rocky Mountain Northwest Region from a Denver base, working with local, regional and state technical and promotion partners to support concrete pavements through promotion, design and construction activities.

Empowered employees help Titan America mark a decade in EPA Energy Star ranks

Titan America’s Roanoke Cement in Virginia has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star certification for a tenth consecutive year, while sister Pennsuco operation in Florida marks nine years of certification. To qualify for Energy Star, plants must perform in the top 25 percent of cement mills nationwide for total energy efficiency (thermal and electrical) and meet strict EPA performance levels.

From a record, 82-contestant field, Chris Harrison of Mobley Concrete Co. in Russellville, Ark., took the NRMCA National Mixer Driver Championship in Nashville, staged September 18-19 during the group’s 2016 ConcreteWorks. After placing second in the 2015 competition (San Antonio), Harrison earned a $2,500 cash prize from the NRMCA’s Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB) for this year’s first place finish.
