Integrated cement, aggregate and concrete producer Summit Materials has appointed a ninth director, Steven Wunning, who will also serve on the Compensation Committee.

“With his more than 40 years of industry experience leading global operations and driving improved performance[,] Steve brings valuable perspective as a successful business executive and seasoned board member,” says Summit CEO Tom Hill. “His deep acumen in managing expanding organizations, implementing best-in class logistics practices and integrating complex acquisitions will be a positive contribution to Summit’s materials-based growth objectives.”

“Summit is fortunate to have a diverse team of highly respected business leaders serving on its board. Steve is a great addition and we anticipate he will add significantly to the depth and quality of our decision-making processes,” adds Chairman Howard Lance.

Wunning served as Caterpillar Inc. group president and executive office member from 2004 through his early-2015 retirement. He joined Caterpillar in 1973 and held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility, including vice president, Logistics Division, for four years prior to his group president appointment. Wunning is also a director of Kennametal Inc., Black & Veatch Holding Co., and Sherwin Williams Co., and a trustee at the Missouri University of Science & Technology, where he earned a Bachelor Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
