Models ease block, brick specifications

The National Concrete Masonry Association-backed Building Information Modeling for Masonry Initiative’s (BIM-M) new guide, BIM for Masonry Modeling Masonry Buildings, provides architects, engineers and mason contractors with tools for developing Autodesk Revit models. BIM-M and The Masonry Society teamed to fund and oversee guide production. Published through TMS, the 17MB document is available for free download from www.tms.org.

Guide users are free to distribute, copy, print, search, or link to the full text for any noncommercial purpose. Authors characterize BIM as the most significant advancement of the architectural/engineering/construction community since designers left the drawing boards and moved to Computer Aided Design; a platform providing the profession the opportunity to collaborate in a data-rich, 3-D environment; and, a tool potentially leading to a living model across a building’s service life.
