In one of the biggest equipment rollouts timed with World of Concrete 2016, Navistar announced in Las Vegas the severe service International HX Series, available in 115- and 120-in. bumper-to-back-of-cab (bbc), set-forward or set-back axle versions. “The HX Series is an opportunity for International to recapture a leading position in the vocational market—a segment we previously led,” said Navistar CEO Troy Clarke. “The launch underscores our commitment to innovation, dedication to uptime and position as a leader within the industry.”

Navistar hosted a formal HX Series unveiling the day leading into World of Concrete 2016, demonstrating a 9-yd. McNeilus mixer-bearing HX615 and Ox Bodies dump-bearing HX620.

“The design is based on in-depth discussions with leading users of severe service applications,” added Navistar President, Truck and Parts Bill Kozek. “Each of the four models in the series has been engineered to deliver unmatched performance for the most punishing jobs, while making operators more productive.”

The HX Series is equipped with an aluminum cab, billed as the only one on the market dedicated to vocational trucking conditions, and a three-piece Metton hood with weight and strength characteristics besting fiberglass alternatives. It succeeds the aluminum cab-equipped PayStar Series, launched in 1999 and based on a legacy model from early 1970s. The HX Series is positioned as International’s primary truck offering for construction users, joining the WorkStar line, bearing steel cabs and running 7- to 13-liter power.

The new series’ order book is open with initial deliveries this spring. Navistar unveiled three models at World of Concrete, running February 2-5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center:

  • HX515, a 115-in. bbc set-forward axle straight truck with Navistar N13 power and primary applications including concrete mixer, construction dump, and crane;
  • HX615, a 115-in. bbc set-back axle truck or tractor with Navistar N13 power and primary applications including construction dump, concrete mixer and platform stake/crane; and,
  • HX620, a 120-in. bbc set-back axle truck or tractor with Cummins ISX15 power and primary applications including heavy haul tractor, construction dump and platform stake/crane.

The HX520, a 120-in. bbc set-forward axle truck or tractor with Cummins ISX15 power and primary applications including heavy haul tractor, construction dump and platform stake/crane, will formally debut in April at Truck World, Toronto.

Each HX model delivers on four key principles of design, notes Navistar Senior Vice President, Global Product Development Denny Mooney: maximum strength and durability, driver productivity, bold styling and superior uptime. “The Series combines aggressive styling, unstoppable capability and driver-centric features to appeal to vocational truck owners in a whole new way,” he affirms. — www.InternationalTrucks.com/HXSeries
