Through I Make America, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers is launching an initiative to encourage members and the construction industry’s hardworking ranks to fly-in to Washington, D.C., and support a new federal highway bill. Individuals who attended ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 may be eligible to receive $500 for travel expenses to attend an industry-associated “fly-in” to meet with federal lawmakers and regulators to advocate for funding of highways, roads, and bridges. For those individuals who do not claim their reimbursement, AEM will contribute $500 on their behalf to benefit wounded warriors.
“The U.S. infrastructure system ranks only 23rd globally and we are rapidly falling behind,” says AEM President Dennis Slater. “As the federal highway bill is set to expire at the end of September, AEM understands the importance of making sure Congress hears from the construction industry and those directly impacted by their failure to act. By partnering with industry representatives, we can make a difference to improve our infrastructure and create better highways for America.”
In addition to ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 attendance, individuals seeking eligibility for the $500 credit must participate in one of three Washington, D.C., gatherings: this month’s Transportation Construction Coalition Fly-In or Rally for Roads; or The Material Group Fly-In, September 9-10. Additionally, they must not have registered for the 2013 TCC Fly-In, 2012 Rally for Roads, 2013 NAPA or NSSGA Fly-In. Finally, candidates for the $500 credit must report back of their experience on Capitol Hill.
