Mapei Americas has acquired Minnesota admixture producer General Resource Technology, eyeing synergies with its own product portfolio—adhesives, coatings, grouts and mortars—while extending GRT offerings beyond the Central U.S., first toward the coasts and eventually to Canada and Mexico.
“Mapei Group has been in the admixture business for a long time globally, and GRT will certainly help us move forward in that market in the Americas,” notes Mapei Americas CEO Luigi Di Geso. “With the addition of an admixture manufacturer based in the Americas, the growth rate of our Concrete Systems category will increase even more quickly. As our global Underground Tunneling Technology division expands, GRT will provide an important source of highly specialized products for this market as well.”
Founded in 1993, GRT markets concrete admixtures and auxiliary products regionally, especially targeting technology to support next-generation chemical agents. “When we first began talks, we felt very comfortable with the Mapei philosophy,” says GRT Vice President Travis Collins, who is transitioning to general manager of Mapei America’s new subsidiary and reporting to Di Geso. “We feel Mapei will help us reach new heights as we all work to grow the admixtures business.”
