Officials at Titan Concrete announced late last year their company is the first ready mixed producer in the state of Florida and second in the United States to produce environmental product declarations (EPDs) using the Product Category Rules (PCR) of the University of Washington/College of the Built Environment-hosted Carbon Leadership Forum.
As leaders in sustainable construction, we constantly look for ways to adapt to changing times,” says Titan Florida Business Unit’s Kevin Baird, vice president of Concrete Products. “EPDs provide important information and value for our customers and business partners … data and services we know they need.
An EPD is a standardized report of a life cycle assessment (LCA) based on a consensus-developed PCR. Sometimes compared with a food’s nutrition label, an EPD is designed to communicate the environmental impact of a product through its life cycle in a streamlined and comparable format. EPDs enable building designers to make educated decisions about the products they use. EPDs also support the LEED v4 initiatives under the new materials and resources credit. Titan Concrete EPDs have been third party verified by NSF Sustainability, a division of global independent public health organization NSF International. The documents are available at info.nsf.org.
