Marathon, Wis.-based County Materials Corp. has reportedly closed on bridge, transportation and building product operator Prestress Engineering Co., LLC, with Prairie Grove, Ill., headquarters and engineering office and Blackstone, Ill., plant located about 75 miles southwest of Chicago.
With strong competencies in prestressed girder, highway sound wall and structural precast retaining wall block fabrication, the company is an established player in Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Toll Highway Authority work. Current contracts include prestressed girders for one of Illinois’ largest infrastructure projects under way: the $141 million Englewood Flyover, carrying a Metra commuter rail line on the south side of Chicago over Amtrak and freight right of way.
Located just off Interstate 55, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute-certified Blackstone operation complements County Materials’ Salem and Champaign, Ill., plants—specializing in bridge and architectural products and also PCI certified. In addition to the Illinois sites, County Materials has one precast/prestressed plant in Missouri and two in its Wisconsin home base, where it is also a mainstay in ready mixed production.
