NRMCA named 26 member plants or regional businesses in this year’s Excellence in Quality Awards, the winners recognized during the ConcreteWorks Conference and Expo, September 21-24 in Las Vegas.
Recipients demonstrate adoption of quality management principles over a range of activities from commitment to quality, materials management, and managing production facilities to product quality control and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. The NRMCA Research, Engineering & Standards Committee awards producers by plant, division or region in three categories, honoring in the 2013 program:
- Category A (annual production > 1 million yd.): Argos USA, South Central Ready Mix, Areas 4 & 5; Cemex Florida Division, East Region; Cemex Northern California; Cemstone Products Co.; GCC America Ready Mix & Aggregates Division; and, Vulcan Materials Co., East Region, Northern Virginia/D.C., and South Region Florida Rock.
- Category B (250,000 to 1 million yd.): Aggregate Industries Northeast Region; Argos USA, Southeast Ready Mix, Areas 1, 2 & 3; CalPortland Nevada Region; Cemex Carolinas; Chandler Concrete Co.; Chaney Enterprises; Concrete Supply Co., Heritage Division; Irving Materials Inc., imi South and Southwest Divisions; Preferred Materials, Oldcastle Southern Group; Tarmac America LLC; and, Titan Virginia Ready-Mix LLC, Northern Region.
- Category C (< 250,000 cubic yards): Argos USA, South Central Ready Mix, Area 6; Powhatan Ready Mix; Titan America/Titan Viginia Ready Mix, Southern Region; and, Western Rock Products, Oldcastle Materials Mountain West Division.
Companies apply to the Excellence in Quality program either as a single entity or a division, and respond to a multiple-choice type form. A minimum score of 75 percent with supporting validation qualifies producers for an award.
