An engineer who studies materials’ economic and environmental implications, recycling and end-of-life recovery, Jeremy Gregory has been named executive director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology-hosted Concrete Sustainability Hub (CSHub), succeeding Hamlin Jennings.
Gregory has led the research, development and implementation efforts of the CSHub’s life-cycle assessment and life-cycle costs analysis teams for the past two years, and studied life-cycle environmental impacts for pavements, conventional and electric vehicles, recycling systems, and material availability in supply chains. He holds three mechanical engineering degrees, masters and PhD from MIT, bachelors from Montana State University.
Acknowledging CSHub’s success as an industry-academia partnership, backed by Portland Cement Association and Ready Mixed Concrete Research & Education Foundation, Gregory plans to “build upon [its] foundation and create new opportunities to translate research conducted at MIT into opportunities for industry.”
“In addition to his expertise in this field, Jeremy’s background in solid mechanics is ideal for creating synergies between the science platform and life-cycle analysis teams,” says MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Franz-Josef Ulm, CSHub faculty director. “We have been extremely fortunate to have Professor Hamlin Jennings leading us out of the starting blocks since 2010 and establishing the CSHub as the recognized epicenter of concrete science and engineering worldwide.”
