In a nod to an urban legend on the first load of ready mixed concrete, reportedly delivered to a Baltimore construction site in 1913, NRMCA will mark the industry’s 100th anniversary throughout this year. “NRMCA is proud to spearhead the celebration of this important milestone,” says NRMCA President Robert Garbini. “The entire industry should take pride in the work it does in building our nation’s future.”

The association will highlight members’ histories in its weekly newsletter, kicking off with profiles of founding (1930) NRMCA member Boston Sand & Gravel, on the brink of its own centennial anniversary in 2014; Indiana’s Kuert Concrete Inc. (70-year NRMCA member); Maryland’s Thomas, Bennett & Hunter Inc. (63-year member); Mississippi’s MMC Materials (60-year member); Maryland’s Chaney Enterprises, which marked its 50th anniversary last year (45-year member); and, Illinois’ Ozinga Brothers Inc. (38-year member). NRMCA will have expanded industry anniversary features in its quarterly Concrete InFocus, plus special events during its annual convention, March 3–5 in San Antonio, and ConcreteWorks Conference & Expo, September 22-24 in Las Vegas.
