Oldcastle pinpoints fast-track solution for Internet provider’s satellite infrastructure

Oldcastle Precast completed a major Satellite Uplink Collocation Tier 2 facility located in North Platte, Neb. The project was a turnkey design-build facility constructed for Pinpoint Communications, as well as designed to meet the collocation needs of a major satellite internet provider.

Pinpoint performed the planning, land acquisition and fiber engineering while Oldcastle Precast concurrently performed the design, engineering and manufacturing of the Maxi-Mod 3056 modular precast building for the Satellite Uplink facility. Upon permit approval, Oldcastle Precast prepared the remote field location, completed facility and satellite foundations and delivered a virtually complete 1,680-sq.-ft. facility to the location within weeks and set the structure in only one day. The quick turn-around permitted Pinpoint Communications as well as the major satellite internet provider to install and test their equipment allowing for go-live only four weeks after the Oldcastle Precast facility was in place.

“Pinpoint had a very tight timeframe to get this building up and operational, and Oldcastle stepped up to the challenge. We could not have met the necessary timelines if not for the efforts of Oldcastle and their professional team,” stated Chris Karn, COO Pinpoint Holdings, Inc.

Constructed offsite in a quality controlled environment, the Maxi-Mod is designed as a virtually impenetrable shelter solution for highly sensitive and costly equipment whatever the seismic or loading requirements. The Maxi-Mod is a customizable product with a sustainable 50-year lifecycle that was delivered and outfitted with the following features: energy-efficient and impervious walls and ceilings; three dedicated rooms; infrastructure management systems; multi-stage cooling systems; redundant utility and power systems; and, clean agent fire protection systems. Oldcastle provided all the required system testing services prior to placement into service.
