Cummins will begin full production in March of the ISX12 engine, bearing optimized calibration over its predecessor model, the EPA 2010-geared ISX11.9, and fuel savings in vocational applications up to 12 percent.

The compact ISX12 will deliver improved fuel economy, reliability and proven performance across the broad range of applications for which it is ideally suited, he adds.
Featuring better pulling power than the ISX11.9, strong driveability and clutch engagement torque, the ISX12 is designed to work in rigorous duty cycles, including those in mixer and dump trucks. Full suites of horsepower and torque ratings are also available for Class 8 truck regional haul and day cab operations. Like the predecessor model, the Cummins ISX12 meets EPA 2010 diesel engine emissions guidelines using enhanced cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation, single VGT Turbocharger, proprietary XPI fuel system, and the company’s exhaust Aftertreatment with Selective Catalytic Reduction technology.
The ISX12 has standard ratings from 310 to 425 hp and SmartTorque ratings from 330 hp to 425 hp, the latter unleashing higher torque in the two top gears so drivers can climb steep hills with fewer downshifts. For vocational applications, the ISX12 is an exceptional choice, Cummins engineers contend, citing a high power-to-weight ratio and 800 lb.-ft. of clutch engagement torque. Eight vocational ratings are available, along with integrated Rear Engine Power Take-Off, Front Engine Power Take-Off, and a choice of hydraulic drive options.
