The increasing use of pervious concrete pavement in large commercial projects involving union finishers supports NRMCA’s assignment of the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association (OPCMIA) as a National Sponsor of the Pervious Concrete Contractor Certification program. OPCMIA represents 40,000-plus rank & file and has more than 85 training centers covering flatwork skills. It launched its official pervious concrete training program in November and has already started certifying contractors.

National sponsors work with NRMCA State Affiliates or other Local Sponsoring Groups to administer the training and certification sessions. NRMCA entered the agreement with OPCMIA following two years of development of its training program, which entails two to three days of classroom and hands-on sessions. It expands on the NRMCA Pervious Concrete Contractor Certification Reference Text and focuses on the practical application of pervious installation.
