After securing a strategic interest, BMC Enterprises will operate the former Ready Mix Concrete Inc. plants in Ste. Genevieve, Perryville, and Fredericktown, Mo., under RMC, LLC. The parent company of St. Louis ready mixed market leader Breckenridge Material Co. has appointed former principal Gaylon Light as RMC, LLC managing director. Another former principal, Terry Guethle, also remains with the business.

“Considering the state of the construction industry, we are excited to be in a position to continue to expand and are delighted to be a part of a great organization that will play a large role in the construction industry in southern Missouri,” says BMC President Nathan McKean.

The RMC, LLC properties extend by perhaps 25 miles BMC Enterprises’ 50- to 75-mile market radius south of St. Louis. Though relatively small, the three-plant transaction dovetails with major shifts in cement production and supply facilities key to St. Louis and southern Missouri. In mid-2010, Washington, D.C.-based Summit Materials took a controlling interest in Continental Cement Co., shortly after a major capacity expansion—from 700,000 to 1.25 million-plus tons/year—at its Hannibal, Mo., mill. Last year also saw Holcim (US) Inc. formally start up a new cement flagship in Ste. Genevieve, with capacity upward of 4 million tons/year.
