At the close of the NRMCA annual convention in Las Vegas, leading into the 2011 ConExpo-Con/Agg, Cemex East Region President Karl Watson, Jr. began a one-year term as board chairman, succeeding Tim Becken of Minnesota’s Cemstone Products.

Based in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he rose through the ranks of (major Cemex USA predecessor) Rinker Materials Corp., Watson has served on the NRMCA Board and Executive Committee, plus Government Affairs, Legal Activities, Educational Activities and Vision Strategic Planning committees. He also has chaired the RMC Research & Education Foundation Board of Trustees and Florida Concrete & Products Association.

The day before taking the helm of the NRMCA board, Watson was honored as the Government Affairs Committee’s Grassroots Activist of the Year. The new chairman “has a long history of involvement with NRMCA and is well versed in the issues confronting our industry as it moves forward from this most challenging of economic times,” affirms NRMCA President Robert Garbini. “I know our staff, and Karl’s ready mixed concrete colleagues are excited to work with him.”
