Lehigh LeedsÌ new D Silo features sophisticated environmental controls to produce a virtually dust-free product-loading system, and demonstrates characteristics of a concrete structure with projected 100-year service life. Construction of the 79-ft.-diameter, 239-ft.-tall structure consumed 6,200-plus yards of a concrete mix containing Leed’s Type C1157HE powder and a ground granulated blast furnace slag cement, yielding an end product with a lower carbon footprint. A formal commissioning of the 20,000-metric ton, multi-compartment and environmentally friendly silo on October 12 will cap nearly 30 months of project activity. The event will include tours and a construction overview by Leeds Plant Manager Rick Parker, plus Lehigh Hanson’s South Region President Clifford Hahne and Vice President, Sustainability & Marketing Communications Lori Tiefenthaler.
