A benchmark document for newly chartered ACI Committee 329 Ò Performance Criteria for Ready Mixed Concrete discusses prescriptive versus performance requirements for a project’s concrete mixes and practice, along with implementing performance-based requirements and related quality control, assurance and acceptance criteria. A three-year undertaking for Innovative Task Group 8, initiated by past NRMCA Prescriptive-to-Performance (P2P) Steering Committee chairman Ken Rear (Lehigh Cement), ITG-8R-10 Performance-based Requirements for Concrete proposes alternatives to prescriptive durability requirements in ACI 318-Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.

Scheduled to join the ACI library later this year, and the 2012 Manual of Concrete Practice, the new document will serve as a reference for additional proposals concerning mix or practice requirements in ACI 318 and ACI 301-Specifications for Structural Concrete. Committee 329 chartered at ACI’s Spring 2010 convention and will meet during the institute’s fall gathering, October 24-28 in Pittsburgh. Chairing the committee is Mark Chrzanowski, principal structural technologist with engineering giant CH2MHill. Representing NRMCA on ACI 329 is Senior Vice President Colin Lobo, [email protected].
