Under a three-year contract, West Palm Beach-based Royal Concrete Concepts will export precast modular home components to Angola, as it also builds a satellite operation in the sub-Saharan African nation. Built in the port city of Lobito, Angola, the 96-sq.-m Bengo model comprises three sections of ship container-sized precast modules (each equipped with roof and foundation) that are combined on site and set on footers. RCC’s modular homes include plant-installed kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobes.
The precaster is partnering with a private Angolan investment firm involved in financial, environmental, and real-estate projects; their contract dovetails with a initiative through which government officials aim to complete one million new homes by 2012. Eyeing production and export of components for up to 15,000 modular homes over the next three years, RCC will augment domestic fabrication with the opening of a Cubal, Angola, precast operation in 2011. It will be equipped to deliver commercial building solutions for urban environments, including healthcare facilities, schools, and police and fire stations.
