As precast project principal for Lewis and Clark Memorial Towers in Hartford, Ill., and Lancaster (Pa.) Central West Garage, Denver, Pa.-based High Concrete Group LLC garnered honorable mentions in Custom Solutions and Best Parking Structures categories, respectively, of Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute’s 48th Annual PCI Design Awards. This year, a panel of five construction industry professionals serving as independent judges honored 29 buildings (out of 136 North American entries) for design excellence and construction quality.
The $11.1 million, 151,000-sq.-ft. Lancaster Central West Garage was designed to discreetly accommodate 405 parking spaces in historic downtown Lancaster, Pa. Accordingly, the new garage features precast walls faced with thin brick and cast-stone band inserts to complement surrounding 19th century structures. CarbonCast double tees, produced by High Concrete Group under an agreement with AltusGroup, Inc., provided a lightweight, noncorrosive driving surface. Also included among project principals were High Concrete sister companies Greenfield Architects Ltd. and general contractor High Construction Co., both of Lancaster.
Overlooking the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers where Lewis and Clark launched their expedition, the $4.8 million, 4,220-sq.-ft. Lewis and Clark Memorial Towers comprise two 190-ft.-tall structures connected by observation platforms at 50 ft., 100 ft. and 150 ft. Project architect was St. Louis, Mo.-based KAI Design & Build; and, H2K Construction LLC of Alton, Ill., and Jun Construction of Godfrey, Ill., served as general contractors.
