Epa Extends Coal Ash Rule Public Comment Period, Adds Hearings

EPA is accepting comments through November 19 on its proposed rule, Identification and Listing of Special Wastes; Disposal of Coal Combustion Residuals [CCR] From Electric Utilities, which cites a potential hazardous waste designation for materials of composition similar to concrete-grade fly ash. EPA has also added two dates, September 21 in Pittsburgh and September 28 in Louisville, Ky., to a schedule of public hearings on the proposed rule. They join previously announced hearings: August 30, Arlington, Va.; September 2, Denver; September 8, Dallas; September 14, Charlotte, N.C.; and, September 16, Chicago. Individuals who preregister will be given three minutes to speak; EPA staff will consider slot requests on-site as schedules permit. All individuals seeking to have their views presented or entered into hearing records are encouraged to prepare written statements.
