United Arab Emirates will be the site of the inaugural International Concrete Sustainability Conference, December 13Ò14, sponsored by NRMCA in partnership with UAE’s Grey Matters Consultancy. Likely in the shadow of the 2,716-ft., concrete Burj Khalifa–the world’s tallest building–the Conference will offer networking opportunities and information on latest advances, technical knowledge, continuing research, tools and solutions for sustainable concrete production and practice.
Significant interest on the part of a global research and industry community prompted the move to an international venue, following four consecutive domestic events. As in previous years, targeted attendees include researchers, academics, students, engineers, architects, contractors, concrete producers, material suppliers and public works officials. Experts will address sustainable design, specification, production, testing and construction, covering such topics as low-impact development, urban heat island reduction, carbon footprint and embodied energy, life-cycle assessment, green concrete, recycled materials, performance-based concrete, and government and private initiatives.
Additionally, introductions to several NRMCA certification programs will be offered: NRMCA Certified Concrete Technician, Level 2; NRMCA Certified Concrete Sustainability Professional; and, NRMCA Green-Star Plant Certification. More information on speakers and sessions can be found a www.SustainabilityConf.org.
