Billed as the first program of its kind for knuckleboom and material loader equipment, National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators’ Articulating Crane Operator certification spans three written examinations and a practical test. The program meets or exceeds all current and proposed standards and regulations for crane operators, including the Federal rule scheduled for publication in July, affirms NCCCO Program Manager Joel Oliva.

The Commission developed the certification with the Articulating Crane Council of North America and member companies, while enlisting the International Assessment Institute to develop the written and practical tests leading to operator certification. The written exams, which may be taken before or after the practical test, are available at NCCCO sites. Accreditation of those administering the practical tests entails a three-day workshop and corresponding exams. Free pdf of Articulating Crane Operator Candidate Handbook, ACO Test Site Coordinator Handbook, and Articulating Crane Reference Manual, plus a schedule of test offerings and Practical Examiner Accreditation workshops, are available at www.nccco.org.
