The inaugural Tekla Global BIM Awards model competition honored Coreslab Structures (USA) for Texas Children’s Hospital, winning Concrete projects entry. Largely on the basis of project complexity and model life cycle, judges selected winners in Concrete, BIM and Steel categories from entries that topped regional competitions among Tekla area offices and resellers during 2009. The jury of Building Information Modeling experts included Professor Charles Eastman of Georgia Institute of Technology; Vice Chair of buildingSMART Korea Inhan Kim; and, representing Tekla, CEO Ari Kohonen and Executive Vice President Risto Râty.

Texas Children’s Hospital was Coreslab’s first architectural precast cladding project in the Tekla Structures BIM platform. Surfacing was used to automatically create hatches in all drawings, from elevations to connection details to cast-unit depictions. Reference models were used to coordinate with the architect and contractor, as well as automatically represent materials other than precast in detail drawings.
