Mendota Heights, Minn.-based Cemstone Products Co. supplied pervious concrete for a new three-quarter-mile residential roadway in Shoreview, Minn., near Lake Owassa. The installation comprises a 7-in. pervious concrete layer over an 18-in. aggregate bed. While its durability must stand the test of winter, early drainage performance was impressive: during a demonstration, 2,000 gallons of water discharged from a mixer truck onto a finished portion of the pavement disappeared in about a minute, reports Cemstone’s John Lee.

Primary contractor North County Concrete of Ramsey, Minn., notes that it has completed more than 15 pervious projects locally, specializing in placement of curb and gutter, sidewalk, steps, and pavement. But this, by far, is our largest effort to date, affirms company president Karl Virkus. As part of its mission to offer green technology, North County Concrete started working with pervious pavement in 2007.
