With the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville as a backdrop, Kenworth officially announced the Paccar MX, plus Cummins ISX 11.9 and ISL9, as engines for mixer- and dump-suited 2010 T800 or W900 models. The Paccar MX, available in 380- to 485-hp and with torque outputs up to 1,750 lb.-ft., meets Environmental Protection Agency 2010 diesel engine emission guidelines through Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. SCR requires an additional treatment chamber, coupled with a small quantity of urea or diesel exhaust fluid, beyond the diesel particulate filter of EPA 2007 emissions solutions. Exhaust system mounting on other heavy-duty truck OEM models has favored passenger-side, under-cab or back-of-cab placement of the DPF and secondary-treatment chambers, with a DEF tank on the driver’s side. The Cummins ISL9 (up to 380 hp and 1300 lb.-ft.; W900S) and ISX 11.9 (second half of 2010 availability; T800 and W900S) power packages will carry a similar SCR configuration.
