A feature contributing substantially to LEED certification for UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas was an underground detention system enabling capture of rainwater runoff and its use for area sprinker systems. To execute plans devised by project engineers, Hanson’s Grand Prairie, Texas, facility supplied 52 precast components, including eight sanitary sewer manholes Û four each of 60-in.-diameter and 48-in.-diameter units Û plus a variety of storm-drainage elements. Among the latter were 10 10-ft. curb inlets; 10 grate inlets Û eight 4_4 and two 3_3 units; seven wye inlets Û five 4_4 and two 3_3 components; three junction boxes Û one each of 5_5, 4_4, and 3_3 units; 10 24-in.-square catch basins; two City of Dallas DC vaults (detector check vaults); one City of Dallas FM vault (meter vault); and, one 72-in.-diameter sump manhole (for pumps in the detention boxes).
