Oldcastle Materials has bolted on to its APAC/Texas platform Austin-based Texas Concrete Materials Ltd., a six-plant ready mixed producer, and sister Wheeler Cos. asphalt businesses covering the capital and San Antonio markets. The deal was reported late last month in the San Antonio Business Journal. Consistent with many deals involving independent operators, the buyer has retained the former principal, Jack Wheeler, at the helm of the acquired businesses. He founded Wheeler Cos. in 1982, greatly expanding its presence in 2005 with the purchase of four ready mixed and four asphalt plants from San Antonio-based Capitol Aggregates.
