The most recent offering in National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s expanding series of safety-training tools is Safety Around Concrete Pumps. The CD-based PowerPoint presentation, comprising instructor notes, a quiz, and a documentation form to help track personnel training, is the 13th item in the industry-specific safety series. It is important to educate mixer truck drivers on the electrical hazards that may exist on concrete pump jobs due to overhead power lines, affirms NRMCA Senior Vice President of Operations and Compliance Gary Mullings, along with the risks of high-delivery pressures used by concrete pumps.

Immediately preceding the concrete pump safety CD, NRMCA released 3 Points of Contact, also a CD-based presentation, which discusses three points of the mixer driver’s body Û one foot and two hands Û that must be in contact with the vehicle at all times. We will continue to proactively address safety issues in the industry, Mullings adds. Orders can be placed online at www.nrmca.org/store.

Additionally, NRMCA released an educational DVD addressing federal antitrust laws. Plain Talk about Antitrust Compliance targets regulatory compliance concerns specific to ready mixed, and features commentary from antitrust attorney Steve Mahinka of Morgan, Lewis & Bokius. As educating members on compliance with federal antitrust law is one of the most important services provided by a national trade association, notes NRMCA President Robert Garbini, the DVD helps ensure understanding and compliance with relevant statutes. To obtain pricing information and view the DVD, interested parties may visit www.nrmca.org/store.

Separately, within a six-month period beginning October 1, NRMCA will offer a series of concrete technology Webinars targeting concrete producers, specifying architects/engineers, contractors and testing lab professionals. Topics taught by experts in each subject area will cover concrete durability, sustainability, cracking, troubleshooting, quality control/assurance, concrete codes and specifications, pervious concrete, and nondestructive testing. Each Webinar is offered twice through March 31, 2010. A schedule of titles and speakers, plus information on each Webinar, including dates, times, fees, topic descriptions, author biographies and registration information, can be found at www.nrmca.org/Education, or by contacting NRMCA’s Jessica Moore at [email protected].
