SafeDrive MiniDVR mobile digital video recorder (MDVR) system for public- and private-sector fleet vehicles installs directly to the windshield and incorporates both a forward-facing road-view camera and a rear-facing cab-view camera. It records video, audio, and meta-data to a removable, high-capacity CompactFlash card, included behind lock and key within each unit.
The SafeDrive MiniDVR is capable of simultaneously recording post-event snapshots Û critical in documenting secondary impacts and what transpired after an event Û as it transfers motion video from the internal buffer onto the CompactFlash card for video storage, explains Safety Vision Vice President of Sales Mark Sahinen. The SafeDrive onboard surveillance system also has an external camera input available for the most comprehensive view.
Video is automatically recorded when a vehicle operator is speeding or driving erratically, when the driver/operator manually presses the event save button, or when a crash occurs.
Also recorded and tracked are GPS map coordinates, G-force data, vehicle speed, event trends, and audio that can be accessed by SafeDrive MiniDVR software, which serves as a data management portal offering playback, search, and export features. The MiniDVR’s internal battery backup enables continuous recording despite sudden power loss in the event of vehicle battery ejection, for example, or destruction during a crash.
The in-vehicle video system can be fixed easily and permanently to a windshield with a bracket (included), the manufacturer notes, or temporarily installed with an optional SafeDrive MiniDVR custom high-vacuum suction cup and quick-detach power cord. Other features include infrared illuminators for low-light recording in the vehicle cab, optional remote contact switch for event saves via push button or contact closure switches (selectable Normally Open or Normally Closed), and four programmable sensors for meta-data capture that can be renamed by personnel with Administrative rights in the SafeDrive video management software.
