An intrinsically safe (IS) version of the company’s CEL-350 dBadge micro noise dosimeter is designed to measure noise exposure throughout an employee’s working day to uncover dangerous areas and assure compliance with OSHA, NIOSH or ISO regulations. About the size of a flip phone, the wearable CEL-350IS is ATEX- and FM-approved for use in a range of applications rated Class 1, Div. 1, Groups A, B, C and D Hazardous locations with a T4 temperature classification. Its feature set Û like the standard dBadge Û reportedly includes 90-minute recharge, long running time, data storage, and ease of operation.
Unlike conventional large sound-exposure meters, the manufacturer notes, the CEL-350IS dBadge can be worn comfortably all day by attaching it to a shirt, overalls or hard hat Û no microphone cables or other external equipment are required. The instrument is operated via two buttons located on its side; and, auto-calibration is performed with any standard acoustic calibrator. Once in operation, the unit captures a time history for every noise event, including average noise level and peak value logged in one-minute increments. Its 64kB memory stores up to 180 hours of data.
To perform analysis of workplace noise, industrial hygienists or safety officers download to a PC any measurements stored in the CEL-350IS dBadge. Report templates supplied with dB35 software accompanying the unit permit generation of user-defined databases and, thus, viewing of data in displays customized to specific requirements.
Additional dBadge features include a built-in display that facilitates calibration, while providing status information and key measured data. Further, an ultra-bright LED provides a visual indication by flashing at different rates when exposure action levels have been exceeded.
