The BASF Online Campus for High-Performance Construction is a virtual classroom for construction professionals that offers interactive courses with active video content and flash video. Accessed through www.basf.com/construction, the online courses are free of charge and meet state licensing board requirements for AIA continuing education. Currently, four courses are posted on the BASF Online Campus for High-Performance Construction:

  • High-Performance EIFS for Sustainable Construction Û The one-hour interactive course outlines key architectural decisions related to exterior insulation and finish systems and illustrates how architects can incorporate EIFS into building designs that maximize aesthetic value, longevity, sustainability, LEED ratings and cost-effectiveness. The course satisfies new AIA Sustainable Design Credit requirements.

  • Sealant Repairs that Last: Hybrid Sealants for Building Restoration Û The two-hour interactive course discusses the role that restoration plays in sustainable building, emphasizing the potential contribution of sealants to sustainable design and repair. Participants learn why the greenness of restoration sealants should go beyond VOC emissions to include performance properties and extended service life. The course satisfies new AIA Sustainable Design Credit requirements.

  • Concrete Additives: Water-Repellency & Efflorescence Control in Masonry Û The one-hour interactive online course details means of achieving water-repellency and efflorescence control in masonry construction. While the focus is on single-wythe masonry walls, the admixture technologies presented are applicable to other precast products, including pavers and roof tiles. The course satisfies the AIA Health, Safety and Welfare requirement.

  • High-Performance Green Buildings: New Materials and Methods Û The course discusses selection of building materials and methods with respect to impact on sustainability and performance. In view of occupant health and energy efficiency, the Webcast examines roofing and enclosure materials, giving particular attention to air barriers, cool roof designs, and insulation. The implications of various enclosure choices on building life-cycle analysis (LCA), LEED ratings, and other key measures of building sustainability are examined. Participants viewing the Webcast and successfully completing the exam earn 1.5 AIA/CES learning units. The course satisfies new AIA Sustainable Design Credit requirements.

The BASF Online Campus for High-Performance Construction was developed in conjunction with RedVector, Inc., a leading provider of online education for the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) communities. Upon course completion, a certificate is placed in the participant’s account and results reported (as requested) to the appropriate board.
