Artisan Precast offers a line of hurricane- and earthquake-resistant screening walls and fences. To ensure structural integrity during an earthquake or hurricane, the producer has created a barrier design to withstand harsh conditions and conform to state-specific earthquake and hurricane codes and sections.

The precast fences are erected on site using a post-and-pier method that entails pouring concrete posts at 5- to 6-ft. intervals, then sliding the precast panels into place between the posts. Each panel thus performs as a stand alone wall, whose range of movement can help absorb impact from an earthquake, thereby preventing cracks. Moreover, because components are not mortared to each other, any panel needing repair can be removed and replaced without jeopardizing the structural integrity of other units. Conforming to seismic category D, the precast walls can withstand earthquakes from 7-8 on the Richter scale. They also can resist wind forces up to 150 miles per hour, depending on pier size and steel-reinforcement.

Besides offering greater flexibility and rapid installation for seismic-zone performance, the company affirms, the precast fences require virtually no maintenance. Painting or staining is unnecessary, as components are integrally colored during fabrication. Further, the fencing can be erected in challenging environs, such as undulating topography common to areas where earthquakes are prevalent. Û www.artisanprecast.com
