Exclusive polymer technology with cement particle-dispersing capabilities has yielded BASF Admixture SystemsÌ RheoTEC Z-60, the first in a new concrete admixture series formulated to retain slump and control workability without retardation. The agent affords extended delivery range and faster truck turnaround in ready mixed, and cement and curing optimization in precast, especially where self consolidating mixes are used. RheoTEC works in combination with BASF’s SCC-grade Glenium high-range water-reducing admixtures, plus the Polyheed and Pozzolith mid-range and conventional WRA. Regardless of range, WRA are dosed for initial workability, while RheoTEC imparts retention properties.
Among benefits of the new technology, BASF notes greater consistency of air entrainment, site-gauged mix workability and compressive strengths from load-to-load. By minimizing the amount of site-dosed water or water-reducing admixtures, RheoTEC Z-60 can help narrow the ready mixed delivery window. In precast, the admixture offers higher strength development at eight hours compared to a conventional retarder, affording shorter form-stripping cycles and potentially lowering or eliminating heat curing requirements.
Water-reducing technologies provide excellent workability, says BASF Product Manager Joseph Daczko. However, producers have asked for a technology that could retain workability for longer periods and under various adverse conditions. RheoTEC admixtures offer a chemistry that helps producers improve quality and reduce rejected loads. As part of an optimal admixture system, he adds, the technology gives producers more flexibility when navigating the challenges of changing regional raw materials, environmental conditions and specific project requirements.
