During its 2009 Annual Meeting, Houston-based U.S. Concrete Inc. elected Ray Dillon to the board of directors. Filling the directorship vacated by Murray Simpson upon retirement, Dillon currently is president, chief executive officer, and a director of Deltic Timber Corp., a publicly traded natural resources company focused on the ownership and management of timberland, manufacturing of solid wood products, and the development of residential and commercial real estate. Affirms U.S. Concrete President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Harlan, Ray brings a discerning alternative view of the construction material supply industry to our Board, and his experience will be an excellent asset to the company as we navigate through the current economic environment.


The Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association has named to its board Keith Barghahn, Croell Redi-Mix, La Crosse; Todd Brockman, MCC, Inc., Appleton; Matt Schmitz, Schmitz Ready Mix, Milwaukee; and, Todd Widdes, Todd’s Redi-Mix, Rice Lake. Associate directors include Keith Nault, Solomon Colors, Milwaukee; and, Gary Wallis, St. Marys Cement, Milwaukee. The slate of 2009 WRMCA officers comprises President Bob Peters, Central Ready Mix, Milwaukee; Vice President Gary Benjamin, Champion Concrete, Iron Mountain; and, Secretary/Treasurer Nicholas Rivecca, Sonag Ready Mix, Menomonee Falls.

Baltimore-based Structural Group announces the formation of SPS Infrastructure, Inc. As part of the Structural Group family of companies Û comprising also Structural Preservation Systems, VSL, Pullman Power, and Electro Tech CP Û SPS Infrastructure will operate three divisions, providing concrete restoration, waterproofing, and roofing services for commercial and industrial facilities. Its office will be located in St. Paul, Minn.

At the Eighth Annual Cement Industry Environment and Energy Awards during its Spring Meeting in Chicago, Portland Cement Association (PCA) with cosponsor Cement Americas magazine recognized six cement plants for their commitment to improving the environment and their communities. Plants were honored in six categories: Overall Environmental Excellence Û Titan America LLC/Roanoke Cement Co., Troutville, Va.; Outreach Û Holcim (US) Inc., Theodore, Ala.; Environmental Performance Û Holcim (US) Inc., Holly Hill, S.C.; Land Stewardship Û Cemex, Knoxville, Tenn.; Innovation Û Buzzi Unicem USA Inc., Greencastle, Ind.; and, Energy Efficiency Û California Portland Cement Co., Mojave.

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association has posted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professionals and Certified projects directories at Notes TCA Technical Director Jim Baty, The ability to provide additional resourcing such as finding qualified professionals or projects certified through the LEED program is an important step toward recognition of tilt-up’s impressive record [contributing to] sustainable construction.
