Cintec America’s Blastec is a blast protection system for existing masonry structures. Comprising a complete diagnostic design and installation service, it uses sophisticated technology and drilling methods to retrofit masonry structures to better withstand possible damage from incidents such as gas explosions or bomb blasts. Blastec is capable of reinforcing a variety of masonry wall types in either solid or windowed panels.
The Blastec process begins with inspection of the structure by a qualified Cintec engineer. To determine the best reinforcement pattern, the structure is then modeled in 3-D to assess behavioral probability and inherent risk.
On site, the Cintec Reinforcing Anchor System Û a steel bar enclosed in a mesh fabric sleeve Û is inserted into the structure. A specially developed, nonpolymer, cement-like grout is then injected into the sleeve under low pressure; and, the grout fuses with the mesh and expands, shaping itself around the steel to fit the space.
The latest dry- or low-volume, wet diamond drilling techniques are used to reduce or eliminate water damage associated with conventional concrete wet drilling, Cintec representatives note. Extensive in-situ load testing on various sizes and types of Cintec anchors, they add, has proven that the Reinforcing Anchor System provides a reliable, bottom-line defense to successfully resist large blast loads.
