Henry Batten, executive vice president of Charlotte, N.C.-based Concrete Supply Co., has succeeded Frank Craddock, executive vice president of Houston-based Cemex Inc., as NRMCA chairman. Joining Batten as 2009 officers NRMCA elected during its annual convention in Orlando are Vice Chairman Tim Becken (Cemstone Products Co., Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Secretary/Treasurer Karl Watson, Jr. (Cemex, Inc., West Palm Beach).
The March 15-17 convention likewise saw NRMCA recognize Titan America (retired) Director of Technical Services James Cook as Richard D. Gaynor Award winner; Grace Construction Products (retired) Senior Vice President Bob Turner, William B. Allen Award; Tennessee Concrete Association, State Association of the Year Award; Rock Hill Materials (Catasauqua, Pa.) Sales Manager Jay Robinson, Promoter of the Year Award; Cemex (retired) Vice President of Marketing Rolland Johns, Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion; and, NRMCA Senior Vice President of Operations Gary Mullings, Joseph E. Carpenter Award.
The association also honored Titan Virginia Ready Mix’s Winfred David Brooks Driver of the Year, along with finalists R.L. Jordan, Southern Concrete Materials, Asheville, N.C., and Ricardo Jimenez, Redi-Mix Concrete, Euless, Texas. A check representing a $2,000 scholarship was presented to NRMCA National High School Essay Contest winner Kate Hauge of Moorhead Senior High, Dilworth, Minn.
