Pittsburgh-based Carmeuse Lime & Stone has announced Premiacal, a high (> 75 percent) calcium carbonate, engineered limestone with fineness characteristics especially suited to self consolidating concrete mixes. Through proprietary grinding and gradation, Premiacal achieves particle packing that allows for portland cement substitution at rates of 5 percent to 15 percent by weight. It imparts workability, density and green strength development properties SCC users target for precast and cast-in-place conditions.

Premiacal was unveiled at National Precast Concrete Association’s The Precast Show, Feb. 20-22 in Houston Û Carmeuse Lime & Stone’s first concrete industry exhibit. Company staff noted the product is well established among concrete customers of its European quarries and processing plants, and that Premiacal testing is under way with North American precast and ready mixed producers. Recently appointed to spearhead the engineered limestone introduction in the U.S. and Canada is Pittsburgh-based David Berg, technical marketing manager-Fillers, 412/777-0747, [email protected].

Permiacal is processed at eight milled limestone plants, including former properties of Oglebay Norton, Cleveland, and Dravo Corp., Pittsburgh. Serving the Midwest and Eastern U.S. and Canadian markets, Carmeuse Lime & Stone is the North American business of Belgium’s Carmeuse Group S.A.
