The American Shotcrete Association enlisted a leading construction materials consultant, Dr. Dudley R. Rusty Morgan of Vancouver-based AMEC Earth and Environmental, for Shotcrete – A Compilation of Papers. It includes 36 selected papers, authored or coauthored by Dr. Morgan, featuring topics of interest to designers, specifiers, constructors, and users of shotcrete. The papers are organized in sections addressing Shotcrete Research and Development, Freeze-Thaw Durability of Shotcrete, Fiber-Reinforced Shotcrete, Shotcrete for Ground and Underground Support, Infrastructure Rehabilitation with Shotcrete, and Supplementary Shotcrete Publications.

The retiring Dr. Morgan was instrumental in introducing steel fiber-reinforced shotcrete technology to Canada in the mid-1970s and macro-synthetic fiber-reinforced technology to North America in the late 1980s. He also was a pioneer in the use of silica fume in shotcrete. His consulting work has included a wide variety of projects, ranging from shotcrete for support of underground mines and tunnels to seismic retrofits to architectural applications. Dr. Morgan provided consulting services for shotcrete construction of the bobsleigh/luge tracks at Whistler, B.C., for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
