The PCA Board of Directors voted in Enrique Escalante as chairman during the association’s fall board meeting in Dallas. Currently the president of Denver-based GCC of America, Escalante will serve a two-year term as chairman, succeeding Charlie Sunderland of Ash Grove Cement Co.
Escalante joined GCC in 1999 as president of its Mexican division, moving to his current position in 2000. Prior to joining GCC, Escalante had more than 20 years experience in management and sales positions in heavy industry and construction materials. In addition to serving as PCA’s vice chairman for the past two years, he chaired the Research and Technical Council and Product Standards and Technology Committee, and was a member of the Regional Promotion and Publications Committees.
The Mexican-based GCC has been especially active stateside in the recent years with 2006Ò08 ready mixed producer acquisitions that expanded the company’s presence in Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and the Dakotas. In early 2008, the company also opened a $200 million, 1 million-ton/year cement plant in Pueblo, Colo.
Aris Papadopoulos, CEO of Titan America, the U.S. subsidiary of Titan Cement Group, was elected PCA vice chair. He also serves as chair of the association’s Sustainable Development Committee.
