Colored-Quartz Supplier Serves Flatwork Market

A new business arrangement between Kretus Group and Mineral Visions Inc., allows small- and medium-sized decorative concrete contractors in southern California to purchase SpectraQuartz colored quartz aggregate at volume pricing. Kretus Group, a San Diego-based buying consortium established this year to provide services to decorative concrete contractors, is able to offer members the SpectraQuartz line of colored quartz that is rapidly becoming the standard for any contractor who wants to add aesthetics and durability to their concrete projects, according to Group President Donna Gordon. Besides volume purchasing, the group provides such services as in-depth training on preparation and application of concrete coatings as well as marketing support for growing decorative concrete businesses.

To market SpectraQuartz and other specialty coated quartz products, Fairmount Minerals Ltd. Û a Chardon, Ohio-based producer of industrial- and commercialgrade quartz Û formed the Mineral Visions subsidiary. SpectraQuartz is manufactured by coating high-purity quartz, one of the hardest minerals in the world, with pigment dispersions developed by Sun Chemical to permanently bind to the quartz surface. Highly resistant to ultraviolet rays and chemicals, the resulting product reportedly retains its color and hardness after years of exposure to sunlight and flooring chemicals.

Customers can choose from a standard palette in the SpectraQuartz line or they can create custom blends for a range of effects from subtle tints to a bold splash of color. SpectraQuartz is currently available in a broadcast grade, and Mineral Visions will introduce trowel-grade products in early 2009. Û www.spectraquartz.com, www.kretusgroup.com
