The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute will offer a track of seminars featuring peer-reviewed technical papers at its 2008 convention, Oct. 6-8 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando. The Institute is accepting abstracts for papers to be considered for those sessions and regular general sessions through this month.

Precast concrete continues to grow as the material of choice for commercial, residential, institutional, manufacturing, parking, and many other types of structures, says Chuck Merydith, managing director of marketing and communications. The annual convention is the premier national venue for the exchange of ideas and information on precast concrete design, fabrication, and construction. The peer-reviewed track of programs will strengthen the educational benefits of the convention and bring new ideas to the fore.

Abstracts for the peer-reviewed program should be submitted electronically at www.softconf.com/start/PCIConvention08/submit.html. Program organizers note that summaries: 1) should be no longer than one double-spaced, typewritten page; 2) identify the intended presenter among the listed authors; and, (3) describe the topic’s key points of interest. A committee will review the technical submissions and select those to be presented in the peer-reviewed track of programs. Authors selected to present their papers will be notified by mid April, with final papers to be submitted by June 15. Requirements can be reviewed at www.pci.org. Papers selected for presentation may also be published in PCI Journal, the Institute’s bimonthly magazine.

The convention will be held in conjunction with the PCI National Bridge Conference; attendance at the convention provides access to those programs as well. The convention attracts more than 1,400 participants, providing an outstanding opportunity for networking, education, and the sharing of ideas, says Merydith.
