The City of Rockwall, Texas, has selected Ft. Worth-based Speed Fab-Crete to deliver two new fire stations, marking the city council’s first approval of a design-build contract for new facility construction. The contract provides for stations of identical floor plan, situated at opposite ends of the city. Each station will include six equipment bays, male and female sleeping quarters, dayroom, weight room, kitchen, dining room, a shop, and storage room for firefighters’ gear.

Design-build provided by Speed Fab-Crete is a delivery method by which architectural, engineering, and construction services are performed under a single contract with the owner. That team approach has been shown to minimize litigation and conflict, because everyone is on board from the start, notes Speed Fab-Crete President David Bloxom. Moreover, independent research shows that design-build delivers a project about 33 percent faster than design-bid-build, he adds.

Among Speed Fab-Crete professionals, design-build experts and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) specialists accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council ensure that environmentally responsible facilities are constructed. Speed Fab-Crete’s precast wall building system is considered a sustainable product, company engineers affirm, and its high insulation values contribute finished structures’ LEED ratings.
