The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Operations, Environment and Safety Committee has unveiled an Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Operations, Environment and Safety Committee has unveiled an Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification program available to member and nonmember ready mixed producers. Designed by the OES Environmental Task Group to support the industry’s pursuit of environmental excellence, Green Star will recognize EMS as a benchmarking and continuous improvement tool and provide a means to designate operators advancing the sustainability movement.
Offering producers a specific program that focuses on the unique operational characteristics of ready mixed concrete, Green Star may also serve to fill the gap between industry efforts and such EMS-based certification programs as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Performance Track and the (International Organization for Standardization’s) ISO 14001. While not intended to replace such programs, it can serve as an alternative due to its enhanced accessibility to concrete producers.
