After finishing World of Concrete 2007 with more than 900,000 net sq. ft. of exhibits occupied by 1,739 exhibitors and registration numbers topping a record-breaking 91,000, organizers are expecting an even larger turn out for the 2008 installment, Jan. 21-25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Attendance at next year’s event will be boosted by the recently approved sale of the Mason Contractors Association of America’s annual trade show, Masonry Showcase, to World of Concrete organizers Hanley Wood LLC. Under the terms of the agreement, MCAA will hold its annual convention concurrently with the World of Masonry (Jan. 22-25, 2008), co-located with World of Concrete. The move will combine resources and make the World of Masonry what show officials note is the industry’s premier event.

In addition to its annual convention, MCAA will hold the Fastest Trowel on the Block Competition and International Masonry Skills Challenge during World of Masonry. The association also will be an Education Partner with the World of Masonry seminar program, conducting specific educational courses like Masonry Foreman Development and Masonry Quality Institute.

World of Concrete 2008 will offer 150-plus sessions, new tracks, continuing education opportunities and a new Master Certificate program with more flexible requirements. A new track addition for 2008 among the 90-minute seminars is Green Building, highlighting the demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly construction.

Also new for 2008, Continuing Education opportunities are expanding to include three-hour seminars, as well as 90-minute sessions. All sessions will be submitted for American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems learning units and Professional Development Hours. In addition, a two-day Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour Construction Safety for Concrete Construction course will be held Monday and Tuesday. This course satisfies OSHA’s 10-hour construction safety training program requirements. Û www.worldofconcrete.com; 866/860-1983
