National Concrete Masonry Association, Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute, Cast Stone Institute (CSI) and Portland Cement Association officials convened last month in Indianapolis to formally announce an annual convention and trade exhibit event, the International Concrete Exposition. The inaugural Icon Expo will be Feb. 26-28, 2009, at the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome in Indianapolis. NCMA noted a preliminary Expo plan earlier this year; the mid-October gathering saw the naming of ICPI, CSI and PCA as sponsoring organizations. NCMA and ICPI will time their annual conventions, plus education and social functions, around three days of trade exhibits, while CSI and PCA coordinate their own member activities. Target trade show exhibitors will be plant equipment manufacturers and material and service providers for concrete masonry, cast stone and other precast producers.

Industry events dating to Masonry Expo and the more recent Manufactured Concrete Products Exposition have been successful for participating organizations, highly valued by their members, and productive for exhibitors, said NCMA 2007 Chairman Steve Doty (Peerless Block & Brick). We extend an open invitation to other concrete industry organizations to join with us in sponsoring Icon Expo.

Icon Expo’s charter sponsors will appoint a steering committee to oversee programming for the inaugural event. The committee is scheduled to have an organizational meeting during the (Feb. 7-9) 2008 MCPX in Denver. That event will mark the sunset of a five-year arrangement involving NCMA and lead partner, National Precast Concrete Association. Û www.iconexpo.com; www.iconexpo.org
