Housby Mack Inc. reports that it has opened the first OEM-backed freestanding truck service facility for Class 5 to Class 8 vehicles. Located just off Interstate 80 in the dealer’s Des Moines, Iowa, base, Housby Truck Lube is equipped to perform oil changes and preventive maintenance checks on more than 45 vehicles a day, bringing what company officials note are speed and efficiency to the world of heavy-duty truck service.
Quick lube bays provide three levels of service: basic 30-minute oil and filter change; 45-minute oil and filter change with a 41-point preventive maintenance check; and, a full-service oil and filter change and 70-point check typically performed in under three hours. On-site oil analysis capabilities yield reports in about 10 minutes.
The heart of the facility is a custom pit system whose 100-ft. fiberglass inserts have built-in sump pumps for ease of cleaning and consistent, optimal lighting for mechanics. The system also stores lower-end greases on reels so mechanics can efficiently fill or top off gearboxes. An oil evacuation system in the pits secures used lubricants, which in turn are earmarked to fuel shop heating units.
While trucks are being serviced, drivers have a snack shop or virtual office at their leisure. Wi-Fi is available along with private workstations. A lounge area affords customers a break with flat screen/satellite TV and recliners.
